Board of Directors

John Gachora is the Regional Head of the Investment Banking Division (Sub-Saharan Africa) at Absa Capital in Johannesburg. He was formerly a Managing Director at Bank of America and a Vice President at Credit Suisse First Boston heading the Structuring division. John holds a Masters of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Masters of Business Administration from Wharton Business School (USA).

Ramesh Lakshmi-Ratan 

Ramesh Ratan is President of Pitney Bowes Document Messaging Technologies. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Pitney BowesFoundation, and senior executive sponsor of product management disciplineimplementation across all Pitney Bowes business units.  Ramesh was previously EVP and Chief Operating Officerof the Direct Marketing Association (DMA), President of the Americas and SeniorVice President for VocalTec Communications Ltd; Chief Technology Officer of theYellow Pages I.M.A.; President of the Software Division of Packetup Corp.;distinguished member of technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories andFounder of the AT&T Consumer Lab; and Vice President of Global Marketingand Business Development of next-generation networks at Lucent Technologies.

Ramesh holds a Ph.D. in operations research and marketing from the University of Pittsburgh, an M.M.S. in operations researchand marketing from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute at the University of Bombay,and a B.Sc. in mathematics, physics, and chemistry from the University ofPoona.

Laila Macharia  Managing Director

She is a corporate finance lawyer admitted to practice in Kenya as well as in New York and Maryland (USA). In addition to her strong urban development background, Ms. Macharia has wide experience managing international projects and transactions, including in the New York office of Clifford Chance, a leading global law firm. She holds a doctorate in law from Stanford University.
